Among molds and fungi, Exophiala is said to be detected hard and is the troublesome mold that contaminates such product as beverages and daily necessities, causing quality problem.

 

Potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium is commonly used in the industry as the main medium for mold detection, but exophiala rarely grows on PDAs, so normal PDA has difficulty to detect exophiala. This is one of the main causes of the problem.

 

Sabouraud dextrose agar medium or MicroBio PDA can be used for reliable detection.
If you use this medium for inspection of the exophiala contamination with MicroBio μ3D AutoScanner that is a fully automated microbial detection system, you can realize how easy it is to detect this troublesome mold. You can say the same for membrane filter method.


 【Exophiala】 Detection Comparison of media: PDA, GPLP, Sabouraud Dextrose

The following is the detection test data of MicroBio μ3D AutoScanner for thedetection of exophilia on agar medium of PDA, GPLP, and Sabouraud dextrose.
As a result, it was confirmed that Sabouraud dextrose medium supports thegrowth of Exophilia better than PDA medium.
We are conducting comparative studies using graphs, but it is said that it isbetter to have a large number of samples in order to obtain a standarddistribution (bell shape), so that the sample should have a bacterial count of1,000 cells / ml or more.

 

The same sample of Exophiala .jeanselmei was added to each medium. However,as a result of culturing, PDA detected no colony.
